| | | The games between the Gulls and the Energy City Cactus Rats for Sunday, July 12 have been updated. Both games of the scheduled doubleheader will now be played at Gulls Field. Originally, the teams were scheduled to split the day between Spruce Grove and Sylvan Lake. Instead, fans will be able to enjoy two seven-inning games right here in Sylvan Lake with just one ticket. GAME ONE – Energy City Cactus Rats (Home) vs. Sylvan Lake Gulls (Away) Gates Open: 12:30 pm First Pitch: 2:05 pm Although the Gulls will appear as the away team on the scoreboard, fans can expect the game-day experience to begin just as it normally would. The opening ceremony, pre-game festivities, and early in-game activations will all take place as scheduled. GAME TWO – Sylvan Lake Gulls (Home) vs. Energy City Cactus Rats (Away) First Pitch: 45 minutes following the conclusion of Game One (Approximately 5:05 pm) To accommodate the seven-inning format, any in-game promotions and activations that would normally take place after the sixth inning will be moved to Game Two. |

| | | Last Tuesday saw the Gulls continue their second extended winning streak of the season. Fort McMurray was in town, and the Gulls pulled out a 9-4 win over the Giants. Elijha Hammill did what he’s been doing a fair amount lately—he hit a big home run to highlight the win. This game was again affected by the weather and included a long rain delay. A game that started in June wrapped up in July, as the final out wasn’t recorded until 12:15 a.m. It was nice to see a few hardy fans stick it out until the end. July 1st saw the Gulls travel to Okotoks for a grudge match against their biggest rival, the Dawgs. This one saw newcomer Nathaniel Hopkins hit the first pitch of the game over the wall in left-centre field. It was a bit of an omen, as the Gulls ended the game with five home runs. Hammill, Johnboy Rittenhouse, Eli Duncan, and Michael Quick all added round-trippers. A huge win for the Gulls, 9-6. The Gulls returned home for a two-game series against the Weyburn Beavers. The first game was a tight battle that saw the Gulls score in the first inning. It stayed 1-0 until the Beavers’ shortstop hit a booming home run in the seventh to tie the game at 1-1. The Gulls were able to get that run back in the bottom of the seventh and then add two more in the eighth to seal a 4-1 win. The next night was anything but low scoring. It took the Gulls a few innings to get going, but once they did they rolled to a 14-8 victory. After falling behind 3-0 in the first, they were finally able to figure out the Beavers’ pitcher and put up six runs in the third. They added two runs in each of the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings to go up 12-3 before Weyburn came back with five in the eighth. The Gulls got two of those back in the bottom of the inning to close out the scoring. Saturday saw the Gulls get their first look at the new, unfinished stadium in Spruce Grove, as they faced the Energy City Cactus Rats. The Gulls started quickly and scored in each of the first five innings to build a 12-2 lead. They added one more run in the seventh and closed out a 13-2 win. Sunday saw the two teams back in Sylvan for a doubleheader. The first game had the Gulls as the home team, and another Elijha Hammill home run helped the home side to a 5-1 win. In Game 2, the Cactus Rats were the home team. Rats pitcher Kingston Besuijen controlled the game, throwing a complete game and helping Energy City end the Gulls’ seven-game winning streak with a 7-3 victory. Coleman Parry gave the Gulls some life in the sixth inning when he hit a big two-run home run to pull Sylvan closer, but that was all they could manage. So, after this three-week stretch, the Gulls have made up some ground in the standings and now sit just one game behind Lethbridge and Okotoks for first place in the WCBL West. Lethbridge is in Sylvan for two games to kick off this next stretch. To say that these games are important is a huge understatement, as we are now into the final month of the regular season. | | | By Ian Wilson | July 6, 2026 Raging Bulls Holy cow! We’ve got a new leader in the Western Canadian Baseball League (WCBL) Power Rankings, presented by FortisAlberta. The Lethbridge Bulls, who have been in hot pursuit of the Okotoks Dawgs in the West Division standings over the last few weeks, are now in top spot. The 19-6 Bulls have the best winning percentage (.760) in the WCBL and are 9-1 in their last 10 games. Lethbridge split a pair of head-to-head matchups against the Dawgs at Spitz Stadium last week and a Sunday rubber match at Seaman Stadium in Okotoks was suspended due to inclement weather with the Dawgs leading 5-2 in the fourth inning. So, while Lethbridge is in first in the Power Rankings, they’ll have to keep winning to remain there… |

| | | | The Sylvan Lake Gulls are hosting their Youth Baseball Camp this week, welcoming more than 120 young athletes from across the region for, skill development, fun, and unforgettable experiences. Campers are receiving hands-on instruction from Gulls players and coaches, focusing on the fundamentals of hitting, fielding, throwing, base running, and teamwork, in a positive and encouraging environment. Beyond developing their baseball skills, participants will build confidence, make new friends, and experience the excitement of being part of the Gulls organization. The tremendous turnout year after year reflects the ongoing passion for baseball in our community, and the Sylvan Lake Gulls are proud to continue inspiring the next generation of players through programs that promote learning, sportsmanship, and a love for our game.
